Marianne Burger

Marianne was born in South Africa in 1981, and moved to South West Africa before Independence with her family when she was 5. Growing up in a small farming community, before the age of technology, she was prompted to develop her imagination through exploring her creativity from an early age.

She enrolled as a fashion design student in 2001 where she was selected as the Best N6 Clothing Production Student, was second runner-up at the annual fashion show and completed a 2 year Certificate in Clothing Production, with distinctions in Fashion Illustration, Pattern Construction and Business Management at Tygerberg North-Link College in Cape Town in 2002.

In the pursuit of love, she moved back to the small town she lived as a child and taught arts & crafts at Kamanjab Combined School in exchange for a room at the school hostel to allow her to pursue her creative career in 2004. In 2005, she won a national tender to design the clothing ensemble for employees and representatives of Namibia Wildlife Resorts.

After working in the hospitality industry with her husband for over 10 years, she decided to go back to her creative roots and opened her art studio in 2014.

Influenced by her love for nature and fashion, she works predominantly in mixed media and hand-cut magazine collage. Her first exhibition, together with a selection of other collage artists was “Mash up your Thoughts” by Collage100 Show at LemoArt Gallery in Berlin, 2016.

“I believe we should not be limited by products and technique, for it is within the lack of availability that we learn to think creatively.

I believe art has the ability to heal the wounds of the soul, whether we are aware of the scars or not and only through practicing art as a mirror can we begin to center the body, focus the mind and open the heart to create the life we dream about.”
