Lee McKenna

Place of Birth: Whanganui, New Zealand.

Currently Living in: Melbourne, Australia.

Train, bus, bike, or other: Car, tram, legs!

What’s the most important object in your studio? Probably the ever-present gluestick!

Paper or Plastic? Paper.

Favourite Project you have produced so far? A Botanical series of works produced for a small show with Australian artist Ngaio Lenz.

What are you working on right now? I have a few ongoing projects. One is a series called ‘Our Places’ using found photos that people have taken of their homes and dwellings. Another is a series of simple handmade one-off collaged books. I also have a few collaborations with other artists on the go. These involve sending a ‘starter’ collage to another artist to complete and vice versa.

Favourite Food? Any combination of cheese, figs, walnuts.

Coffee or tea? Always tea first thing in the morning - after that coffee, coffee, coffee!

What’s your earliest creative memory? The early years of my childhood were spent on an isolated farm in the North Island of New Zealand. In terms of creative memories, everything about that time felt creative... from long explorative walks, to being the first up to collect the chook eggs, to poking sticks at insects in the garden and ‘hunting’ for treasure.

How do you prefer to spend your mornings? Let’s be honest... at a cafe with my favourite humans!
